Job Description

The ARBOR Program provides professional, confidential counselling and support services to individuals, families and groups impacted by suicide.  This includes working alongside clients and communities to prevent suicide as well as assisting people bereaved through suicide to come to terms with grief and loss, empowering them to move from ‘surviving to thriving’.

About the role

As the Bereavement Counsellor you will support people bereaved through suicide with your trauma informed, strengths based and person centred approach by providing short term counselling support (in office and outreach setting) and facilitating support groups. You will work as part of the wider ARBOR team alongside other counsellors and peer support volunteers and provide community based education increasing awareness about the impact of suicide.

This is a 12 month parental leave cover contract at 0.8 FTE until 1 May 2026. 

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

To achieve success in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary degree in in social work, psychology, social science, counselling and/or Masters in related discipline and be eligible for professional association membership
  • Substantial counselling experience with individuals, families and communities bereaved by suicide
  • Experience and skills in facilitating groups and training programs
  • Knowledge of current theories, practice and literature in the area of suicide bereavement
  • Knowledge of current trends in supporting those bereaved by suicide
  • Ability to work independently, manage time well and be able to be flexible around working times and locations (including outreach)

The successful candidate must possess full Australian working rights, a current National Police Clearance valid within one year and a WA Drivers Licence with access to a reliable vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed),

  • $96,088 per annum pro rata + 11.5% super
  •  In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount (a benefit exclusive to non for profit organisations)
