As a Financial Counsellor, you will provide a service that aims to relieve monetary pressures experienced by clients in financial hardship.  You will provide assistance to clients to gain an understanding of their own financial situation and to access appropriate support services.  You will support clients to make informed decisions and take action as well as advocate and negotiate with creditors on their behalf. By doing so you will be instrumental in building our clients’ financial resilience and achieving financial stability.

More broadly, you will work with the wider South West community to provide information relating to debt management, credit regulations and consumer finance issues.  You will represent the program at relevant external forums and will work to develop strong relationships with other stakeholders.

This is a permanent, part time (15 hrs hours per week working Monday and Tuesdays) role based from the Busselton Community Resource Centre.

What you will bring

You are a passionate individual who is driven to deliver a quality service for our clients. To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • A diploma in Financial Counselling OR relevant experience in community services with willingness to achieve diploma qualification.
  • Eligibility for accredited membership with the Financial Counsellors Association of WA
  • High levels of financial numeracy
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated capacity for advocacy and successful outcome negotiation
  • Great working knowledge of both credit procedures used by major utilities and the legal processes involved in debt recovery and income maintenance
  • Ability to work in cross cultural situations and especially with Aboriginal people
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Well-developed computer skills (Office 365 and client management systems)

You must have full working right within Australia and possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year.  You will also need to have a valid WA driver’s licence and own a reliable vehicle.

  • $91,498 - $103,962 per annum pro rata + 12% super
  • In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount
  • Additional 3 days (pro-rata) leave per year
