Anglicare WA, in partnership with Doors Wide Open and Breakaway Aboriginal Corporation, has been funded to deliver Housing First Support Services (HFSS) to reduce repeat and chronic homelessness among rough sleepers in Greater Bunbury. Using an intensive case management model based on Housing First principles, the service will work closely with key stakeholders, local Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal communities, the community services sector, the Housing First System Coordinator and the Finding Home Program to identify and engage rough sleepers.

The Peer Worker will provide front-line support to rough sleepers and people living on the streets of Bunbury through the provision of a culturally safe, inclusive, strengths-based, person-centered, trauma-informed approach to service delivery. This role will engage with rough sleepers to provide information, education, referrals and/or access to essential emergency relief and support services that will enable them to transition into safe, secure and stable accommodation.

There are two part time max term (0.4 FTE - 15 hours per week) opportunities available. This position is based in Bunbury.

Desired Skills and Experience

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Qualification in Social or Community work (minimum Certificate III) or experience working in person centred services, community support services, or similar role providing complex client support
  • Lived experience of homelessness Alcohol or Other Drugs, mental health issues or family experience of same.
  • Ability to work with all groups of people and able to respect and work in line with our values relating to embracing different cultures and diversity
  • Good written and verbal communication skills Organisational skills in order to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and to work collaboratively with others
  • Be comfortable using IT devices and computer based data management systems
  • Have an understanding of housing services and accommodation systems

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Card and a WA Drivers Licence.

  • A competitive salary from $75,387 per annum + 12% superannuation
  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (which equates to circa $4K after tax) plus additional salary packaging of up to $2,650 for meal and entertainment expenses 
  • Additional 3 days leave per year over festive period
