As a Financial Counsellor, you will provide a service that aims to relieve monetary pressures experienced by clients in financial hardship.  You will provide assistance to clients to gain an understanding of their own financial situation and to access appropriate support services.  You will support clients to make informed decisions and take action as well as advocate and negotiate with creditors on their behalf. By doing so you will be instrumental in building our clients’ financial resilience and achieving financial stability

More broadly, you will work with the wider South West community to provide information relating to debt management, credit regulations and consumer finance issues.  You will represent the program at relevant external forums and will work to develop strong relationships with other members of the Financial Wellbeing Collective.

This is a permanent, part time (0.5 FTE - 18.75hrs per week) role based in Bunbury.

Desired Skills and Experience

About you

You are a passionate individual who is driven to deliver a quality service for our clients. To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • A diploma in Financial Counselling OR relevant experience in community services with willingness to achieve diploma qualification.
  • Eligibility for accredited membership with the Financial Counsellors Association of WA
  • High levels of financial numeracy
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated capacity for advocacy and successful outcome negotiation
  • Great working knowledge of both credit procedures used by major utilities and the legal processes involved in debt recovery and income maintenance
  • Ability to work in cross cultural situations and especially with Aboriginal people
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team
  • Well-developed computer skills (Office 365 and client management systems)

You must hold a current National Police Clearance and a WA Driver’s License and own a reliable vehicle.

  • $99469.50 per annum pro rata + 12% super and salary packaging 
  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (which equates to circa $4K after tax) plus additional salary packaging of up to $2,650 for meal and entertainment expenses
