Y-Shac assists young people aged between 15-20 years old who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness in crisis accommodation and 16–25-year-olds who are in transitional housing.

The role supports young people living in Y-SHAC emergency accommodation, which includes providing emotional, practical and crisis support. You will work as part of a bigger team and build relationships with young people; you will implement individualised safety and wellbeing strategies and provide practical support and advocacy to young people as deemed appropriate and agreed. You will deliver youth work support in line with developed case management plans and facilitate opportunities for learning and development of independent living skills. 

This is a full time (1.0 FTE - 37.5 hrs per week) position based in Rockingham.

Desired Skills and Experience

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • Certificate III or IV in Youth Work, or Community Services 
  • Ability to engage and build strong relationships with and motivate ‘at risk’ young people
  • Ability to work independently and appropriately respond to crises as necessary
  • Ability to accept, respect and work with young people:
    • from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities
    • from different cultures, particularly with Aboriginal & CaLD young people
    • who may identify as LGBTI
    • from all belief systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated behaviour management, conflict resolution, advocacy and negotiation skills
  • Record keeping skills, including the ability to work with computer software packages
  • Up to date knowledge of resources in the youth services field
  • Flexibility for shifts, including weekends, public holidays and sleep-overs

The successful applicant must also have a valid National Police Clearance, WA Working with Children's, Provide First Aid and a WA Driver's Licence. 

A police record is not an automatic barrier to employment with us. The organisation may seek to request an international police clearance if necessary.   • Starting salary $75,387 per annum plus 12% superannuation
