Y-Shac assists young people aged between 15-20 years old who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness in crisis accommodation and 16–25-year-olds who are in transitional housing. The service offers 24-hour support from youth workers, advocacy, and referrals to specialist services. It also includes independent living activities, goal setting, and a Drug Education and Support Service focused on harm minimisation.
The Coordinator ensures the Y-Shac service provides high quality, professional and comprehensive strengths-based support that is empowering, culturally secure, trauma informed and celebrates diversity. It directly contributes to continuous development and improvement of the Y-Shac service model to align with young people’s needs as well as the strategic initiatives of the organisation, and the wider youth housing and homelessness sector. The Coordinatoralso holds an external facing focus, driving connections with external stakeholders from government, community and sector agencies as well as representing the Y-Shac service at various public and sector forums.
This is a full time (1.0 FTE - 37.5 hrs per week) position based across both Spearwood and Rockingham sites.
About you
To be successful you will have:
- Tertiary Qualification in Human Services, including Mental Health, Alcohol or Other Drugs, Youth Work, Social Work, or related discipline with minimum 5 years post qualification experience
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and program management preferably in homelessness, working with young people, mental health and/or family domestic violence.
- Demonstrated experience in providing supervision and case management.
- Significant knowledge of mental health, alcohol and drug issues, homelessness and working with young people.
- Strong knowledge and skills in effectively managing safety and risk issues and working in a community setting with a flexible approach
- Excellent skills in written, oral and interpersonal communication
- Ability to accept, respect and work with young people:
- from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities
- from different cultures, particularly with Aboriginal & CaLD young people
- who may identify as LGBTI
- from all belief systems
- Demonstrated behaviour management, conflict resolution, advocacy and negotiation skills
- Record keeping skills, including the ability to work with computer software packages
- Up to date knowledge of resources in the youth services field
- Ability to be innovative and flexible, work independently, demonstrate initiative and work effectively under pressure
The successful applicant must also have a valid National Police Clearance, WA Working with Children's and a WA Driver's Licence.
