The Youth Psychosocial Support Package (YPSP) model is a pilot initiative that supports young people who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health with or without alcohol and other drug use, through community-based support services.
As the Peer Worker, you will establish a professional relationship that purposely uses your lived experience/lived expertise to support young people to improve their mental health and wellbeing in line with peer work principles and values while maintaining intentional boundaries, in line with the Youth Work WA Code of Ethics. You will work alongside the YPSP Youth Worker to deliver their individualised package of support in line with an Individualised Recovery Plan.
We are currently gathering a pool of suitable candidates to draw from. The role will work predominantly outreach within the Perth metro area and some in Rockingham, Monday to Friday, with varied hours depending on the client load and staff availability (ranging from 2-15 hours per week).
What you will bring
You will bring your passionate and resilient nature and a drive to deliver quality supports to young people.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
- Lived experience of recovery from mental health issues and/or alcohol and other drug use and a willingness to share your experience to assist young people
- Experience in delivering peer work, youth work or another support role in a community services setting and in particular on outreach,
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how to use your lived experience appropriately in a professional capacity
- Ability to deliver peer support through practical and emotional support which may include the development of independent living skills, opportunities to improve social and community participation, learning, volunteering and employment.
- Good interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Cert IV in Mental Health Peer Work - highly desirable
The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, WA Drivers Licence, Provide First Aid, and a current WA Working with Children Check.
