StandBy – Support After Suicide is a statewide suicide postvention service that provides free, coordinated and evidence-informed support to individuals, families and communities who are bereaved or impacted by suicide. Support is delivered face-to-face, by telephone or online, at a time and place that best meets the needs of everyone. Services are tailored to each person's unique circumstances and include emotional support, information, practical assistance and connection to local services and resources. StandBy also works to strengthen community preparedness, resilience and capacity through education, training and community engagement activities, promoting coordinated responses and reducing duplication of effort. The program is informed by lived experience and guided by strong partnerships with community stakeholders, service providers and local suicide prevention and postvention networks.

As the Program Coordinator, StandBy you will provide operational leadership and coordination to support the delivery of the StandBy – Support After Suicide program across Western Australia. The Program Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting the StandBy workforce, maintaining fidelity to the StandBy Model and Operations Manual, and ensuring the provision of high-quality, evidence-informed and person-centred suicide postvention services. The Program Coordinator provides day-to-day operational oversight, workforce support, practice guidance and quality improvement activities, and works collaboratively with the Suicide Postvention Service Manager, StandBy National, community stakeholders and lived experience representatives to strengthen coordinated responses to suicide bereavement and build community capacity and resilience.

This is a part time (0.9 FTE - 67.5 hrs per fortnight) max term opportunity ending 30 June 2027. The location is flexible, the successful candidate can be based anywhere in Western Australia. We support flexible working arrangements that include flexible working hours and working from home.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling (or an equivalent human services discipline), with eligibility for registration or membership with the relevant professional body where applicable.
  • Substantial experience in the mental health, suicide prevention or suicide postvention sector, with a strong understanding of the impacts of suicide bereavement on individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience developing high-performing teams, delivering training and support, and effectively managing difficult conversations, employee relations matters and performance concerns.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed, person-centred and culturally responsive practice, including an understanding of suicide risk assessment, safety planning and responding to complex presentations.
  • Strong understanding of the issues affecting individuals and communities experiencing vulnerability, trauma, grief and bereavement, including children and young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other priority populations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workforce wellbeing principles, including the impacts of vicarious trauma and cumulative exposure when working in suicide postvention.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve service outcomes, monitor performance and contribute to continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including experience using client management systems, databases and data reporting systems.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, analyse information and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
