Job Description

Reach Further With Us

Join our Family Law Services team and help support families to navigate separation, reduce conflict and achieve positive outcomes for children.

As a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, you will provide Family Dispute Resolution (FDR), Property Mediation, Child Inclusive Practice and related family support services. Working within a child-focused and family-centred framework, you will assist separating families to resolve disputes, strengthen decision-making and develop sustainable parenting and financial arrangements.

You will conduct assessments, facilitate mediation sessions, provide information and referrals, prepare documentation and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support families experiencing separation and family conflict.

The role requires the ability to work with families experiencing a range of complex issues, including family and domestic violence, mental health concerns, substance misuse and high-conflict parenting matters, whilst maintaining a focus on the safety and wellbeing of children.

This is a permanent part-time position based in Joondalup, working between 0.6 and 0.8 FTE. Hours can be worked flexibly across Monday to Friday; however, the successful applicant will be required to work one afternoon and evening shift each week on either a Tuesday or Wednesday (12:30pm to 8:30pm), with remaining hours generally worked between 8:30am and 4:30pm.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You are passionate about supporting families to reach agreements that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and committed to delivering professional, evidence-based and culturally responsive services.

You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Law, Social Work, Psychology, Social Science, Counselling or a related discipline
  • A Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution
  • Accreditation as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney-General's Department
  • Experience providing Family Dispute Resolution and mediation services
  • Experience working with families experiencing separation, family and domestic violence, mental health concerns and other complex family issues
  • Knowledge of the Family Law Act and family dispute resolution practice requirements
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and report writing skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
  • A commitment to child-focused, culturally safe and trauma-informed practice

The successful applicant must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a Working with Children Check and a WA Driver's Licence.

A police record is not an automatic barrier to employment with us. The organisation may seek to request an international police clearance if necessary. We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we review any disclosures on an individual basis, focusing on relevance to the role.

Impact and Benefits

Sharing your knowledge, skills and experience, you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families navigating separation and relationship conflict.

In return for your drive and commitment, we provide the support of an inclusive and welcoming community which places people at the heart of all the work we do and encourages broad thinking, curiosity, creativity and best practice.

Also:

  • $104,188.50 per annum pro rata + 2.5% SPA + 12% superannuation
  • Flexible and family-friendly working conditions
  • Great workplace culture
  • Enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum
  • Additional 3 days leave per year (pro rata)
  • Ability to purchase additional leave
